RD Bailey Lake

R.D. Bailey Lake is an oasis of sparkling blue amid the rugged terrain of the southwestern Appalachian Mountains. Fishing is great. There are plenty of bass, walleye, tiger muskie, crappie, catfish and panfish. Here’s a hint: try putting your line in around the Guyandotte Point Recreation Area or the Big Branch Day Use Area. For landlubbers, the fisherman’s access area below the dam is your best bet, and it’s well-lit for night fishing.

For experienced hunters looking for a challenge, there are rabbits, grouse and turkey in those steep mountains covered with oak, beech and hickory and around the deep ravines. Note that white-tailed deer can only be hunted with bow and arrow.

Among the recreational facilities for all ages are horseshoe pits, basketball and volleyball courts and a huge state-of-the-art playground.
