Lake Norman

Lake Norman and its 50 square miles of water and 520 miles of shoreline are not much more than a half an hour away from Charlotte. There are a lot of water activities. Fishing, of course, but also sailing, waterskiing, wake-boarding and rowing. Get your best view of the extensive shoreline by canoe, kayak or paddle boat. On the water or on land, keep an eye out for turtles (eastern box, soft shell or snapping) and snakes (black rat and Northern water) if you’re into more “exotic” wildlife.

The single-track mountain biking trail is more than 30 miles long. There is also a network of trails to stroll along or hike and a trail especially for the kids, the Dragon Trail, which is actually fun for all ages. Also for all ages are the events held by the Piedmont Amateur Astronomers throughout the summer. Get up close to the moon, stars and planets. And there will be s’mores afterward!
