Lake Jocassee

Lake Jocassee, in Devils Fork State Park, was chosen as one of National Geographic’s Top 50 “Secret” Destinations in the World. Don’t let it remain a secret. Tucked away in the foothills of the Blue

Ridge Mountains, Lake Jocassee is an honest-to-gosh mountain lake with its waterfalls, rock faces, and cold, clear water.

The fishing is exceptional. The lake holds several state records: 5+ pound redeye bass, 9+ pound smallmouth bass, 8+ pound spotted bass, 17+ pound brown trout, and 11+ pound rainbow trout.

There are a number of fabulous waterfalls that you can visit by boat. Considered the “Gem of Jocasse,”  Laurel Fork Falls is in a narrow cove at the northeastern tip of the lake. There are hiking trails with scenic outlooks, such as Jumping Off Rock (but please don’t) and trails where you might be lucky enough to see eagles, falcons, loons, and maybe the occasional bear.
