Lake Hiwassee is located in the Appalacian foothills and surrounded by the Nantahala National Forest.
Anglers love the lake, especially in the spring and fall, when good fishing becomes great fishing. Various species of bass, yellow perch, catfish, bluegill and bream—they are all there waiting to outsmart you! Maybe the infrequently caught muskie will make your day.
If you go for the watersports, you will not be disappointed. Besides fishing and boating, you can canoe, kayak, raft, waterski, and swim. If you’re more the landlubber type, there are trails of every size and shape sure to delight bird watchers and wildlife observers. For the more flora-inclined, there are thousands of native plants. You can also go horseback riding along the trails or play a round of golf.
