Lake Greenwood

Lake Greenwood is a 11,400 acre man-made lake in South Carolina’s western Piedmont region. It has all the usual watersports going on, and if you want to try something new, take some wakeboarding and windsurfing lessons.

Fish from a boat, fish from the pier, either way you’re going to catch bass, crappie, bream, perch, catfish, or stripers. If, in the frenzy of packing, you left your fishing gear on the front porch, no worries. The park office lends out rods and reels.

There’s a big blow-out for the Fourth of July weekend: live music, state-of-the art firework displays, food, games. You can join a crowd of thousands on shore or the hundreds of watercraft on the lake.

But here’s the coolest thing: There are geocaches! If you’re thinking, “Geo what?,” you’ll have to Google it. There are millions of geocaches all over the world, and Lake Greenwood has hopped right into the fun.
