Atwood Lake

Atwood Lake is an hour’s drive from Akron, an hour and a half from Cleveland. You’ll see fishing boats and pontoons, sailboats and kayaks. What you won’t see is any boat ripping through the water—motors over 25 horse power are not allowed.

Anglers can try their luck on largemouth bass, saugeye, bluegill and crappies. Nightfishing for catfish is a great experience. Just use shrimp or nightcrawlers for bait.

The beach is clean and wide with a bathhouse, playground and picnic shelters. In the water are colorful inflatables for the kids to play on, including a volleyball court and two obstacle courses.

Surrounding the lake are trails of various lengths, surfaces and levels of difficulty. Some take you to the observation tower with a panoramic view of the lake, park and beyond. There is also a Shore Geotrail. You’ll have an amazing walk along the lake while you search for the 11 geocaches. If you are not yet a geocacher, it’s a great chance to try it.
